Walt Joller Perpetual Memorial Scholarship

Walt’s legacy can be read below. By far his most lasting contribution will be a perpetual scholarship in his honor. We have received authorization from family, and donations from neighbors, co-workers and friends in the VAW community to establish a “Walt Joller Memorial Scholarship”, with the ultimate goal to make it Perpetual. I encourage you to visit the Web site: http://www.tailhook.net/Foundation.html, Click on your donation and in the address “country” blank, enter JOLLER Or, you may mail your contributions to Tailhook headquarters. Walt was in the Navy for its people, and he epitomized the time-honored principles of leadership. He set an outstanding example. He took care of his people. He enforced the standards... He was the first to put his name on the line and the last to pull it in.

Wally started his Navy career in July 1971 as a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1975. Numerous operational and staff tours prepared Walt well for his subsequent command of the World Famous Black Eagles of VAW-113. Subsequent to command, tours included Executive Officer of Constellation (CV-64) and staff tours including Commander, JTF Southwest Asia, Naval Air Forces Pacific Fleet, Commander Cruiser Destroyer Group FIVE (as Chief of Staff) and Commander of Airborne Early Warning Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet. He concluded his active duty career as Executive Officer of the Tactical Training Group, Pacific and was working as a program manager with SPAWAR Systems Center in San Diego at the time of his death.

Ever positive and upbeat Walt is and will be missed every day by the multitudes who knew him. He was admired, respected and deeply loved. As well, he always enjoyed a good party with his family, shipmates and friends... not to mention a cold beer now and then! He possessed the uncanny ability to look out for his people, both up and down the chain of command and to provide the mentorship and leadership needed at that moment and place in time. Walt loved and respected everyone, and all were eager to return his love and respect. It's not surprising that so many people were proud to call Walt their good friend. The amazing thing was his unbelievable capacity to make everyone else feel so special.

His obituary will be posted on the Tailhook Web site under (In Memoriam) down the left side. http://www.tailhook.net/In_Memoriam.html
